Campaigns are a huge part of my work and the sort of work days I hugely enjoy. I love the high energy and the amazing creatives I get to work alongside on set.
Brands I have worked with on their campaigns include BMW, JD, Carolina Herrera, JW Anderson, New Era, Hoodrich, Top Golf and many more. I work with a range of brands that offer very different product and services, so the brief and look they want can range from very natural for lifestyle campaigns such as Top Golf and more glamorous for high end brands such as Carolina Herrera.
I have always thought it is very important to research the brand before a campaign to really get a feel for the brand and their identity. I have found this helps me add my own creative spin on the looks for the campaign, while staying in keeping with the brief.
A lot of campaigns are very long days of 10-12 hours with 4/5 models. The morning will often be very manic to get all the models ready quickly to maximise shooting time. While the afternoon will often be topping up the makeup and running on set to touch up the makeup or hair to make sure it is perfect for every shot taken.
On campaigns the key makeup artist/ hair stylist will often have an assistant to help with the workload especially if the day is time pressured with a lot of models. So if you are looking to get into makeup for campaigns I would suggest reaching out to makeup artists to gain experience on set through assisting them.
I have a lot of exciting campaigns coming out this summer, so stay tuned!
The makeup industry is an incredibly exciting, creative and fast paced industry and nothing embodies that like a day on a music video set!
Early call times, pushing creativity with colourful eye catching looks, amazing styling with high end brands, booming music and not to mention the often celeb artist.
I have been lucky enough to work with artists such as Anne Marie, Little Mix, Declan McKenna, Tamera, Ruger and many more.
For any filming work, the skin is super important to have good coverage and no shine. I often use a more full coverage foundation such as Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Filter or Nars Longwear. This gives the artists more coverage and better longevity while singing/ dancing in the music video.
Powder is also key as we don’t want our Artist to look sweaty/ shiny. For this I use Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Powder as this has better shine control and is also great for baking.
Often in music videos the brief is something colourful, graphic, sparkly and over all eye catching. A staple in the kit for music video days is the BPerfect Cosmetics Carnival palette as it contains such a wide range of colours and shimmers to cover all sort of looks I may need to create. Another trend that is great for music videos is the use of rhinestones around the eyes to catch the lighting.
