Skin care is a key part in the perfect makeup look. Without a great base to work on the makeup can look cakey, patchy or oily, no matter the expensive products or professional application.
During the winter period with the icy temperatures, strong winds and central heating, it is no surprise that our skin is crying out for some hydration.
Some of my essentials to fight the winter elements and keep your skin hydrated and protected from the cold weather are as follows:
Dr Paw Paw lip balm
An essential to have in your hand bags, coat pockets and in the bedside table.
There’s nothing worse than dry cracked lips when applying your favourite Christmas red lippy.
Weleda Skin Food
A cheap and cheerful option to many more expensive moisturisers on the market.
They have a light option which I recommend under makeup. It’s a lovely base but not too heavy to disrupt the makeup.
For a night time injection of hydration their original formula is brilliant. Apply this generously before bed and wake up with hydrated plump skin ready for the day.
Bioderma 50 spf
Although it may be grey, dreary and pitch black mid afternoon that is no reason to stop using your SPF.
Bioderma is an amazing brand and really focuses on the science of skincare. This spf unlike many does not have a sticky residue and is also moisturising. Which is perfect under makeup.
Keep slapping on that spf girls! 75% of ageing is from UV rays.
Glossier Future Dew
If you are more of a serum user, this is an absolute must have.
Super hydrating but no oily finish!
Great for all skin types and super gentle on the skin for anyone with more sensitive skin.
I hope this keeps those cracked lips and dry skin at bay.
Merry Christmas and hopefully see you all for glam next year.
I am lucky enough to have worked with Dr Rhona for nearly 3 years now and we have created some amazing looks for shoots and YouTube.
Recently Rhona was featured on This Morning and Piers Morgan Uncensored. What I focus on with TV compared to our other looks, is that the skin really looks like skin so has a dewy fresh look while not looking too shiny in the lights.
For both tv appearances I used Charlotte Tilbury My Beautiful Skin foundation, this gives a medium coverage but a light fresh look to the skin. The lights on set are very bright and can make the most matte skin look shiny so I used Laura Mercier Translucent powder and Nyx Pore Filler primer to keep the skin from shining in the camera.
I use a lighter contour than on our shoots we normally do as the camera can often make makeup look heavier than it is. For this I used the Refy cream bronzers to create a lightly sculpted look with out causing heaviness.
As Dr Rhona is a dental professional we thought having hair back and smooth would be perfect to look professional while keeping up Rhonas top glamorous dentist image.
I used the GHD curve wand for the smooth waves on the This Morning Appearance and the GHD flat iron Straighteners for the silky straight look for Piers Morgan.
Keeping fly away from distracting the camera I used the Schwarzkopf Max Hold hair spray to keep it smooth and sleek.

Years of trial and error has led me to my perfect bridal makeup kit.
Natural and Glowing skin
I love a natural glow and a light coverage on a bride which always has me reaching for Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin or L’Oréal True Match. This allows me to enhance the natural features of a bride and make them look and feel their best and achieve a timeless look that suits the bride’s taste and skin type.
Rosey Glowing cheeks
Nars Orgasm is a must have bridal blush. Cream blushes I also love are Elf & Glossier. With these options, no matter what sort of look you’re trying to achieve, whether the goal is something more matt or dewier, there is nothing we can’t achieve for your special day. Nars Orgasm provides a peachy pink hint to a bride’s cheeks and is a great, universally friendly option that suits almost every skin tone! The cream blushes help to achieve that natural glowy look which most bride’s desire.
Perfect Bridal Lip
I always reach for pink undertones for a bride and Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk is an absolute classic. A pillow talk liner dupe I have recently discovered is ‘Frenchie’ by Morphe. This provides a fresh and romantic look and is an easy to wear and incredibly flattering colour to wear which is perfect for your wedding day.

I’m Emily, a professional makeup artist based in London. I have worked on music videos with artists such as Anne Marie, Little Mix, Declan McKenna and Josie Man. These were fantastic experiences for me, and I can’t wait for more opportunities to transpire!
Music videos are always such a fun project as there is so much creativity involved. The possibilities are endless and the opportunity to be innovative allows me to explore new ideas and processes and fall even more in love with makeup. I love the different elements that come with designing a character’s makeup.
The artists I have worked with are all from such different genres. I have worked from character makeup for a ‘devil’ Margaret Thatcher, all the way through to ‘girls messy night out’ looks. There is no creative limit to what makeup can be achieved and I’ll try my best to ensure you’re happy with end result.
